Sooke hills Sunday

Sunday 2 March: Another wildflower-forward hike in the Sooke Hills. First we’ll check out the satinflowers (hopefully some will be out) on Mt Wells. We will go to the summit

and then keep heading eastward to the trail that goes down between the climbing walls on Wells. From here it’s across the road and up Mt McDonald. We’ll visit

all the likely spots on McDonald, Marnie, John, and Neil – stop at a few boulders, maybe climb a tree or two. We will start our traverse back to the cars around the
south end of McDonald and then follow a trail along the lower east side of the hill back to the Mt Wells Trailhead where we parked the cars.
Although the distance isn’t that long, this is a full hike. However, those who want to drive back up-Island before the afternoon rush can leave a car at the Mt Wells
climbing area and head off while the rest of us go up Mt McDonald.

This hike may be shortened/changed if there is heavy or continuous rain.

Hiking boots with ankle support and good tread are recommended for this hike. Hiking poles never go amiss in the Sooke Hills. Bring water/hot drink, snacks and a
lunch, rain gear, an extra layer of clothing, and the 10 essentials. We will stop for 11ses, lunch, afternoon snack, and wildflowers!

Parking at the Mt Wells Parking Lot off Humpback Road – come for 8:50 am so we can start together at 9:00.
