Slideshow: Alpine plants of Vancouver Island, the Olympic Mountains, and beyond - Hans Roemer

Hans will describe how he came to know and appreciate the plants of the mountains. He will present examples of the splendour of our alpine plants and describe how exciting it is when one can connect more than the peaks and their elevations to the different mountain landscapes, as the alpine vegetation responds to different bedrocks, climatic peculiarities and glacial histories. Hans thinks there is no better place to experience floral beauty than in the mountains. He feels that knowing and appreciating the alpine flowers is particularly important as one gets older and

less capable of enjoying the peaks.

You may have heard Hans name as he has famously collaborated with Pojar & MacKinnon on ‘Alpine Plants of BC’ book, 2013. It will be an honour to have such an expert in Alpine plants educate us on the life that we see around us in the mountains and to brighten up an otherwise dark, rainy, cold time of the year with some colour!
