Four of us set out on July 10, 2026 to hike up Mt. Myra in Strathcona Park. We hit the trails at the parking spot near Myra Mine an headed up the trail to Tenant Lake. This trail is following the pipeline for the mine’s hydro power from the head stock to the generating station and is very steep and consist mostly of rock fill. After Tenant Lake, the trail changes to the more typical rock, roots, sticks and bedrock surface, including a few steep sections that required mild scrambling. We set up camp at Sandbag Lake, wondering who brought all of the sand bags and concrete up the mountain and for what reason - to divert the flow? The next day, after an overnight rain we set up to the summit, and lucked out, because the clouds lifted when we reached the summit, rewarding us with great views. We returned to our camp site via a small detour to a small hill overlooking the lakes and peaks. After a relatively dry second night, we returned to our cars in the sunshine. We met a few folks at the campsite and along the way, including a group of junior rangers from rural BC and a club member and friend who could not join our group because both were accompanied by their dogs, who are unfortunately not allowed on club outings. Our group consisted of Peggy Taylor, our trusted leader, Rachel Treloar, David Suttill and Ingo Lambrecht.
