On Saturday 7 March 2026 Catrin Brown and Dave Suttill co-lead a loop hike over Mt Braden in the nearby South Section of the Sooke Hills Wilderness Regional Park. Participation was on the low side with the addition of Ken W and Martin D coming out. However, it was a great trip all the same. The weather was generally overcast, with occasional light sprinkles, and enough sun to make for one really nice rainbow. The hike took us around the west side of Mt Braden to a high point on the ridge known locally as Castle Pk, then on to Mt Braden itself (479m), and on down the southeast side via Plateau Peak. There was not much of a showing of spring time flowers except for the lower south facing slopes of the ridge leading down from Plateau Pk. Total distance covered 11.5 km, cumulative elevation gain 550m.
