Description Weather and conditions permitting – Mount Arrowsmith via Main Gully Route, 6km out and back hike, 813m elevation gain to summit, 7-8hr round trip. Hike up to the bowl where the main gulley is located, great space to practice self-arrests, ascend the roughly 120m gulley with aid of crampons and ice axe(s), and return on the same route. If the weather forecast is poor, we will postpone it to a future day. Trip also conditional with logging road to the trailhead being open and accessible.

Skill Level Moderate to high level of physical fitness, comfort hiking in the backcountry and scrambling. If you’re interested in a first experience using crampons and an ice axe, this is a great location.

Equipment Requirements ¾ or full shank hiking or mountaineering boots, Ice axe, Crampons, Helmet, Microspikes (optional, have proven helpful on past trips), Hiking poles, Winter hiking clothing, lunch and snacks Note that I’ll send out a recommended gear list prior, and a reminder that gear is available to rent from the club.
