On October 4th, 4 of us headed up Mount Service. There has been recent logging at the base so with the key to the gate you can now drive to the base of the mountain. The down side is that you start the hike going through fresh slash. Once through the slash there is a faint trail with the odd ribbon to follow up the very steep trail up the mountain. At over 800m elevation over 2.5km it is a butt burner but nothing technical.
After an easy scramble onto the ridge the last bit was a nice ridge walk. Unfortunately the clouds only allowed for peaks the the views. After lunch and some summit photos we made our way back down to the cars.
