Details: Day trip to Mount Joan, one of the higher peaks in the Beaufort Range. Participants should be comfortable unroped on steep snow and have solid ice axe self-belay and self-arrest skills. Due to the early start, recommend overnighting at the trailhead. This is an early-season trip and weather and snow conditions may be challenging. If conditions are superb and there is group consensus, there is the possibility of also doing The Squarehead and possibly even Mount Curran.
Equipment: Boots, gaiters, ice axe, helmet, crampons, a day pack with The Ten Essentials.
Rating: This trip is rated as C2:
- C: Strenuous, 10+ hour day, 1200m+ elevation gain, day pack
- 2: Some steep snow in mountainous terrain
