Klitsa North Approach

Klitsa - North Approach

Distance: 13.5 km

Elevation Gain: 1,560 m

Total Time: approx. 8 hrs including lunch stop

The new(ish) trail head (49.28341, -125.23158) is located at the end of a new spur off South Taylor Main. The new section of trail joins the old trailhead at 49.27661, -125.22880 after crossing Klitsa Creek twice - once on a log, and once on a trolley. Low water August 14th allowed crossing on exposed rocks rather than the trolley.

Note - There is a fork in the new trail at 49.27969, -125.23254. Staying left takes you across Klitsa Creek twice, and staying right takes you to an overgrown logging road (TA522F) - both lead to the old trailhead but turning left is far more enjoyable.

The trail is in good shape up to First Lake and beyond until about 1,400 m. From about 1,500m the trail is pretty messy with multiple eroding paths. If you don’t mind some fun scrambling, staying to climber’s left avoids all the scree.

Water sources include Klitsa Creek, First Lake and the creek running out of it, and two small ponds further along at 49.26429, -125.24163 and 49.25932, -125.23903.
