This ACC-led workshop based out of Hišimy̓awiƛ, our hut on 5040 Peak, is intended to introduce beginners to elements of non-glaciated mountaineering. Trip participants will practice the basic skills needed to climb and descend the occasional pitch of steep spring/summer snow, and to practice rappelling in mountain terrain. The workshop will include using a combination of mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axes, and rope & protection systems.
Equipment needed: mountaineering boots, mountaineering axe, crampons, harness, rappel device.
Workshop philosophy: Chill. The goal is to practice skills in a beautiful setting vs. crushing routes. We’ll take our time and split up into rope teams based on comfort and skill level.
Workshop fee: $50 – includes 2 nights accommodation at the hut. Participants will be responsible for their own meals and car pooling to the trail head on Marion Main Forest Service Road 50 km from Port Alberni will be encouraged.
