Just completed a solo overnight sleep out on the saddle below 5040 peak. Conditions were amazing and the sunset looking down at the hut was incredible. I stopped into the hut on my way out which gave me a chance to try and sell the guests on the benefits and reasons to become ACCVI members.
I went up via the NW Ridge as I always do and quickly encountered some serious blowdown that could use some flagging and a possible reroute work over. I trimmed as much brush along my hike as I could (I’ve done this the last 3 yrs in a row). Love going this way but it is completely dry currently so bring enough water for the ascent 4.12km @ 1290m
Had a nice time and exited via Cobalt Trail the next day and then walked the road back down to my car at the NW Ridge trailhead. On the walk I ran into a BC Govt employee who said they were just about to start work on another $100,000 that they were given for further improvements on top of what was done this year already. The road is incredible compared to what we drove 10 years ago.
