Five of us - Martin, Ryan, Neil, Jamie, Kieran - went up to Hišimy̓awiƛ June 26-29 to get some maintenance tasks done.
Critically Jamie was able to replumb the new propane shed to the new generator, ready for final hookup at the end of summer. The club is fortunate to have these skilled pros on hand. We even have a permit!
The rest of us less skilled hands did some manual labor. We constructed a new route up to the summit of 5040 that bypasses the rock/chain route and goes instead through the woods away from steep precipices. We were blessed with cool rainy weather as we worked, and much appreciated the thanks from the steady stream of summit visitors that passed us.
The weather all weekend was foggy and rainy, but alongside the 40 or so (!) tenters, we were lucky with late evening sunsets as the skies cleared. Kieran and I managed to get out for a late afternoon hike up to the ridge, observatory, and summit where we finally managed to see Triple Peak poking above the clouds. We heard a large rockfall come off the Observatory so be careful walking around below!
Crappy weather led to another crappy task, unclogging the outhouse pee-hole. TP and human waste had clogged the urine diverter resulting in overflowing onto the floor. Accompanied by the whine of mosquitos we managed to unclog the hole and dump the remnant into bags to be flown out later this year. Please please please put TP into the dedicated tube! A scent and sight I shall not soon forget. Kieran meanwhile was digging out the front post in order to keep the dirt from rotting it, and surrounding it with gravel and rocks. The rest of the weekend we did minor chores, some inventory, and played darts and read books in the mist, enjoying the usual comforts of our hut!
